Week 6 in the Connected Educator

So many times we want our students to become more engaged in their learning, yet we don't change what we are doing in the classroom. This week in the Connected Educator, I was able to find multiple tools that would increase engagement in my classroom and help my students with their learning.

The first tool that I learned about was Symbaloo. Symbaloo is a great source that helps you keep all of your webpages on one single page. You can create a Symbaloo for a research project, for math activities that students can use, or to keep all of your important webpages in one place. You can design your Symbaloo page to look any way you want and you can organize it in a way that works best for you or your students. You then can share a link so that they can see your Symbaloo page and use it for themselves. I created a page that has all of the online math activities that my students could use to study or practice when they are at home or have time in advisor.

Here is a video to show you how to use Symbaloo.

Another tool we used was Flipgrid. Flipgrid can be used as a video activity for your students to have discussions or to answer a question being asked. You can type out a question you are wanting the students to answer or you can type out a comment that you want them to respond to, then send them the link and the code to get into the Flipgrid, and then they can leave a short 2 minute video with their response. It is a fun tool that can get students engaged and to try a new way to show their work/answers. Here is a video on how to use it in the classroom.
